Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza SC steps down; Neo Dongwana appointed new Chairman
JOHANNESBURG, 12 February 2020 – Barloworld Limited today announced that Neo Dongwana has been appointed as an independent Chairman of the Board of Directors of Barloworld (the Board”) following her endorsement by shareholders at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The Board wishes to extend their gratitude to Advocate Ntsebeza SC for his valuable and outstanding contribution over the years. His wisdom and counsel will be sorely missed as the Company embarks on the next phase of its journey.
Advocate Ntsebeza SC said: “It has been an honour and privileged to have been a member of the Barloworld board for just over twenty years and Chairman for twelve. During this time, I have seen the group weather many changes and challenging macro-economic dynamics. I congratulate Mrs Neo Dongwana who will succeed me as Chairman. I am certain that Neo will lead the group with the same clarity of insight regarding our operating context, challenges and opportunities that she has demonstrated during her board tenure.
Neo Dongwana has served on the Barloworld Board since May 2012. With the appointment, she becomes the first woman to chair the board in the company’s 118 years of existence. After qualifying as a CA (SA), Neo worked as an equity analyst at Gensec Asset Management. She currently serves as a non-executive director of Mpact Limited and Nedbank Limited. Prior to these appointments, she was an audit partner at Deloitte for almost ten years. Neo is also a member of the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) Tribunal. Neo is passionate about the growth and transformation of the chartered accountancy profession and in particular the development of women CAs. She is a committed member of the African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA) and until recently served as a director of its investment arm.
