Barloworld appoints Dr Nolulamo Gwagwa as independent non-executive director and chairperson of the board14 July 2021
Dr Gwagwa is an accomplished development planner, business leader and philanthropist.
Barloworld Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Nolulamo (Lulu) Gwagwa as an independent non-executive director and the Chairperson of the Board, with effect from 1 October 2021.
Dr Gwagwa has four decades of experience across multiple industries in the public and private sectors. Dr Gwangwa has served on the boards of companies in the business-to-business operating environment and has international exposure in managing complex governance structures. She has also served on the boards of several large South African organisations including FirstRand Limited, Sun International Limited, and Afrox Limited, currently serving on the boards of Massmart Holdings Limited and Zutari Proprietary Limited (chairperson). Dr Gwagwa will bring with her extensive leadership, and strategic oversight experience and skills to the board.

Dr Gwagwa will also chair the Nomination Committee and Strategy and Investment Committee and serve as a member of the Company’s Remuneration Committee and Social, Ethics and Transformation (SET) Committee.

Dr Gwagwa holds a Master’s degree in Town and Regional Planning from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an MSc (cum laude) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an MPhil from St Augustine College, and a PhD in Development Planning from the University College of London.
