Environmental Week
By acknowledging World Environment Day on 05 June 2012, we reminded ourselves and others of the importance of caring for our environment. This year, the theme was ‘Green Economy: Does it include you?’ is focussed on sustainable energy, green jobs, low carbon economies, green policies, green buildings, waste management, water efficiency - all aspects that are key pillars to Barloworld’s sustainability initiatives.
The environment is important to us
At Barloworld, we are proud to be an organisation that has made environmental custodianship an integral part of our business and central to our 2015 vision. Taking care of the environment has formed one of the foundations of our approach to long term value creation for all our stakeholders for some time.
It is included in our policies and practices, from Our Code of Ethics which includes ‘Protect the environment’, one of our Strategic Focus Areas is Sustainable Development and one of our 10 Pillars of Sustainability is Environmental and Social legitimacy. These, together with our value based management approach form the foundation of the way that we conduct our business and ourselves around the world.
Our areas of focus include improving efficiencies in our non-renewable energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, water conservation, recycling and responsible waste disposal. Also included is providing integrated customer solutions that assist our customers to achieve their environmental objectives. Click here to read more on our initiatives
We recently partnered with Global Sustainability TV (GSTV) in a television series featuring ecology and energy conscious companies and organisations around the world. This series will showcase some of the newest and most “sustainable” technologies being used today. Click here to view our video on environmental sustainability.
