Isuzu bakkie donated to Mandela Barloworld Agricultural in JV between Barloworld Foundation, Barloworld Motors & General Motors

Group
The Mandela Barloworld Agricultural High School will now be able to transport the fresh produce it harvests to markets all over Ga-Modjadji, Limpopo thanks to an Isuzu KB 200 bakkie donated by the Barloworld Foundation.

The vehicle, valued at R129 000, was sourced at a reduced price after John Reston of Barloworld Motors Centurion negotiated a discount between his dealership and General Motors.

The vehicle is making a big difference to the running of the school says Philipine Modika, Principal of the Mandela Barloworld Agricultural High School. “We have needed a vehicle to transport the crops that we produce for a long time; with Barloworld’s donation, this will now be possible.”

Started in 2002, the agricultural school is the realisation of Queen Modjadji's dream to provide a learning and health care centre for her community. At a cost of R15 million via the Barloworld Trust, the school was built to accommodate a maximum of 360 learners. Today there are 320 students being equipped with agricultural, technological and entrepreneurial skills that will allow them to support themselves and their community through their contribution to the agricultural sector.  Their first matric class in 2006 achieved a 100% pass rate.

Five years of learners going through an intensive agriculturally-focused education programme also means that the greater Limpopo community will now begin to see the value of the school as the matriculants of 2006 begin to work in the agricultural sector. “The quality of our learners cannot only be seen through the good results they produce, but also through the work they will do when they enter the world out there. They are like clay pots being moulded. Only once they have been tested, like a pot on a fire, will their true value be seen.” says Modika.
